If you’re looking for an upmarket hotel in Bangkok that won’t break the bank, The Davis Bangkok is a great choice
Following on from my post about cheap hotels in Bangkok, I thought I’d go to the other end of the scale and mention one of the most affordable luxury hotels I’ve seen here - the Davis Bangkok. When my parents came to visit last November, this is the hotel they stayed in and they were really impressed with it. The Davis has a really elegant contemporary, modern feel to it, and the rooms are a mix of styles. They’re all pretty spacious, even the smallest studio rooms, and they have a variety of decor too.
Some rooms have been renovated more recently than others, so the older ones look a bit dated, but they are still very comfortable. The beds are very good and the bathroom very luxurious with a good, powerful shower. The staff at The Davis are extremely helpful and courteous and speak good English too. There’s lot of amenities and a swimming pool etc, but I’m not really bothered about that sort of stuff. A good room and good service are the two things I care about. Prices start at around US$85 a night, depending on what season you book. I’ve just reserved a room there for some friends of mine who are visiting later this month, so it will be interesting to see if they like it as much as my parents.

Certainly The Davis is not in the same sheer opulence mode that you’ll find at signature Bangkok hotels like The Peninsular and The Oriental, but it’s also a fraction of the price. By contrast, you can pay the same price as The Davis at plenty of other hotels in Bangkok and get a very mediocre room and service.
The Davis is on Sukhumvit Soi 24 - about 10 minutes walk away from chi-chi department store The Emporium and Phrom Phong BTS Skytrain station. The hotel runs a free shuttle to the BTS and there’s a Starbucks, Au Bon Pain and supermarket all directly opposite the hotel.
You can browse more Bangkok hotels and reviews at Travelhappy’s Bangkok hotels page. There’s a whole bunch of pretty favourable reader reviews of The Davis there too.
